Hong Kong and Macao count on Efacec’s energy and mobility solutions since the 1990s.
After the Middle East, North African and Latin America stages, the thrilling electric street-racing series of Formula E heads to Asia. The next race takes place on March 10th in Hong Kong, an iconic race that DS TECHEETAH aims to have a incident free race and gain more points in their efforts to continue climbing in the driver and team standings.
The previous race in Mexico City was again a challenge for DS TECHETAH. André Lotterer finished in the 5th place after a stellar drive, managing his energy and positing throughout the race. Jean-Éric Vergne was hit by another car that impacted his performance to eventually finish the race in 13th place. Now in Hong Kong the challenge is to reach a positive performance and to score valuable points, a key ingredient in their efforts to claim another championship title.
In addition to the performance on the streets of Hong Kong, DS TECHEETAH team will participate in the “FIA Smart Cities” initiative, which will take place on the eve of the E-Prix. The FIA Smart Cities Forum brings together experts from different fields of sustainable mobility and speakers from national and local authorities, research institutes, important industry players and FIA members to reflect on how innovation have paved the way for cleaner, safer and more sustainable mobility solutions in various cities worldwide. Mark Preston, DS TECHEETAH Team Principal will be speaking in the panel “Formula E Insights – Advancing Electrification in Racing”. The participants in this event will also the opportunity to made a garage tour, circuit visit and to watch to the Formula E shakedown.

Efacec’s track-record in Macao and Hong Kong
Efacec has been in Macao and Hong Kong since 1970s through the supply of energy solutions (medium voltage switchgear and distribution transformers), mobility (charging solutions for electric vehicles) and smart cities solutions.
In Macao, due to the historical relationship between Portugal and this territory, Efacec standed out by the supply of medium voltage switchgear equipment, located in several places namely in two of the most emblematic local landmarks – the Macao Tower and the Hotel Lisboa. Regarding the transformers segment, Efacec started its operation at the distribution transformers factory in 1991. Through this unit, the company produced nearly 6,000 units that had been installed in Macao and in other countries in the Southeast Asia. From Efacec’s facilities located in Portugal were produced and exported to this region, more than 10 thousand distribution transformers.
Regarding mobility solutions, the largest bridge in the world, which connects Zhuhai, Macao and Hong Kong, is equipped with an Efacec EV fast charger. Currently Efacec has more than 100 chargers installed in Macao and Hong Kong. It is also noteworthy that Macao was the first place to receive a management system developed by Efacec to manage EV charging points network.
The entry in the Asia Pacific market is a strategic step for Efacec. The partnership with China Media Capital, owner of DS TECHEETAH Formula E Team, offers all the conditions for Efacec increase brand awareness and to gain new business in this region.
It should be recalled that China is one of the main markets of Electric Mobility worldwide, representing about half of the global market for electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. By the end of 2017, China already had more than 400,000 charging stations, which show its continuous commitment to the development of public and private infrastructures in this field.
Pioneer in the Electric Mobility and a world leader in the production of ultra-fast chargers
Efacec is celebrating one year after the opening of its Electric Mobility dedicated facilities last year. This investment materializes the strong commitment of the company in this sector. In a period of just 12 months, Efacec’s electric mobility area turnover grew up about 100%, reaching an amount of 36 million euro, and more than a hundred people were recruited to strengthen the team dedicated to this business unit.
Efacec offers a full range of electric vehicles chargers for private, public, fast, ultra-fast and wireless segments.
These new electric mobility dedicated facilities materialize the company´s continuous commitment to R&D, innovation and to product engineering and it is aligned with Efacec´s 2020 Strategic Plan, which is the basis for the new cycle the company started in October 2015. This approach allowed Efacec to launch new projects, namely integrated storage solutions, integrated solutions (hardware and software) for home and fleet charging, charging solutions for truck fleets and to evolve the range of high-power solutions.
The company actively participates in the largest markets for electric mobility, especially in Europe and the United States. Efacec is also attentive to other markets such as Asia, Latin America and Oceania, leading the sector in some countries in the region.
