Efacec’s experience and expertise on the development of urban mobility systems in Norway has been recognized one more time. Bybanen Utbygging, a department in the Norwegian Hordaland County Council responsible for planning, designing and developing urban transportation, awarded Efacec with a contract for the construction of the electrification system for the extension of the existing trolleybus line in Bergen to a longer in-motion charging bus line. The contract represents an amount of 5,3 million Euro for Efacec and has an overall duration of 24 months.
Efacec’s scope of works includes the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the catenary system as well as the 3 traction substations for the power supply and all associated cabling.
The project is a consequence of the decision taken by the Council of Hordaland to extend the existing trolleybus system (a line with 8km extension) into an in-motion charging bus line with an addition of 5,8 km, of which 3,8 km shall be installed with overhead contact system in both directions and the remaining 2 km will be operated using batteries installed in the trolleybus, which will be charged during the operation under overhead contact system.
Working in Bergen since 2011 on several stages of the Bergen Light Rail, this new contract for the trolleybus system is a new challenge for Efacec to continue to contribute to the sustainability of public transportation in Norway.
