Efacec joined more than 150 European companies and business and investment institutions in an open letter addressed to the European Union Heads of State and the European Commission with a clear appeal: to support the ambition established in the Green Deal and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target of at least 55 per cent by 2030.

“Efacec welcomes the increased EU GHC emissions reduction target to 55% (2030)  and is totally committed to enable a Net Zero Future”, says Ângelo Ramalho, CEO of Efacec.

The open letter is based on the argument that, by raising the EU 2030 target and delivering a climate-resilient and regenerative recovery in response to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, the EU can demonstrate international climate leadership in the run up to COP26 (United Nations Climate Change Conference), which takes place in November 2021.

This initiative occurs days before the speech by the President of The European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on the State of the Union 2020, and aims to urge European political leaders to avoid the worst effects of climate change and ensure a sustainable and competitive economic recovery in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. The signatories recognize the urgency of the climate crisis and call on the EU to lead the way in decarbonizing the global economy by 2050 at least.
