With the ambition of contributing to Portugal building a more sustainable development model, Efacec signed the Manifesto promoted by BCSD Portugal – “Towards COP26” – which presents 11 objectives to stop climate change, which reflect the different aspects to be considered to increase the ambition of the global and collective response, aligned with the goal of limiting the Earth’s warming to 1.5⁰C, which requires accelerating the decarbonization process worldwide.
The Manifesto alerts to the relevance and need for renewable energies for the projection of nature as well as the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and neutral emissions in 2050.
In this context, Efacec’s association with the Manifesto reinforces the Company’s commitment to comply with the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, whose aim is to reconcile Prosperity with Protecting the Planet.
Efacec highlights its strategic pillars – Energy, Environment and Mobility – on which all its activity is based, contributing to a more sustainable world.
For Ângelo Ramalho, Chairman and CEO of Efacec, “the association with the Manifesto allows us to strengthen our position in defense of the environment as well as consolidate our goals anchored in innovation and technology. We want to create a smarter future for a better life through the development of integrated solutions. 2021 is a year of consolidation of ongoing projects focused on digitalization, decarbonization, energy decentralization and optimization of the Energy, Environment and Mobility value chains.”
João Castello Branco, Chairman of the Board of BCSD Portugal and Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Navigator Company, stresses the importance of this initiative, explaining that “we cannot allow climate action to be limited to the policies and initiatives currently underway, otherwise this could result in global warming of at least 2.9⁰C” which is not at all compatible with the protection we aspire to for the planet and the biosphere.
The Secretary General of BCSD Portugal, João Meneses, reinforces: “Companies have a decisive role in climate action, not only by the impacts of their value chains, but above all by their potential for investment, knowledge and innovation.”
“Towards COP26” was signed by more than 80 Portuguese companies and comes three months before the world climate meeting (COP26), which will be held in Glasgow from October 31 to November 12 and is promoted by the Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD), the organization that brings together more than 100 companies committed to a transition to sustainability.
