Meeting the demanding requirements of interoperability and reliability in energy networks.
In a significant milestone for the global energy sector, Efacec’s Station Server UC 500 is the first automation solution in the world to receive UCAIug IEC 61850 Edition 2.1 client certification, from the independent testing laboratory DNV.
This is one of three advanced substation protection and automation products to receive this prestigious certification, along with the TPU 500 series of Protection and Control IEDs and the BCU 500 Bay Controller, which had already recently obtained IEC 61850 Edition 2.1 server certification.
With the first product in the world to receive the IEC 61850 Ed 2.1 qualification, Efacec is not only meeting the demands of today’s market, but also setting the standard for the future of substation automation.
This certification guarantees that the products meet the demanding interoperability and reliability requirements of today’s energy networks, boosting operational efficiency and improving network stability in an increasingly complex energy landscape.
Carried out in close collaboration with DNV, the certification process stands out for the technical challenges involved and validates the implementation of IEC 61850, the international protocol for communication in electrical substations.
Furthermore, this achievement represents a significant commercial advantage for Efacec and strengthens its market position by opening up new opportunities for its substation automation portfolio. With utilities and network operators valuing compliance with the IEC 61850 standard more than ever, these newly certified products present a new value proposition by offering a unique level of interoperability, scalability and cybersecurity, ensuring compatibility and integration into existing and future infrastructures.
“This certification consolidates Efacec’s position as one of the main suppliers to utilities and network operators looking for advanced, future-proof automation solutions. It underlines our commitment to the digital transformation of substations, as well as the high technical capabilities we have in-house, internationally recognised in the energy sector”, stated Hugo Martins, Efacec’s UC 500 Product Manager.
The products now certified are part of several reference projects for railway automation as well as transmission and distribution substations, delivered to utilities across different geographies, such as Portugal, France, Algeria, Bahrain and Chile.
This is another important step in Efacec’s journey to build the digital substations of the future by driving advances that will help shape the next generation of energy infrastructures.
